According to the US Department of Labor’s Defense Base Act Case Summary Report at least 418 Defense Base Act Death Claims were filed in 2011.
Civilian Contractor Casualties and their related costs are one of the best kept secrets of the Wars.
The Department of Labor does not release the names of the claimants
We scour all internet sources for the names of the Contractors Injured or Killed and are able to identify less than 10% of those reported. Click on our Contractor Casualties tag for most of those we indentified and visit our Memorial Pages which we apologize for being behind on.

We do not get any names from the Department of Labor.
The only way we get names is to track them in the media or we are contacted by family members.

This really stinks for people like me , i havent met any family members and have no way of getting in touch with them even if i wanted to . I already tryed yellow paiges and information. Thank you

why doesn’t the NY. times run a story on us putting are lives on the line most of us are Vets and do want to support are men it’s not all about the money or a pat on the back but they put the screws to us for getting hurt just maybe the public should know how we are treated by the company’s when we return . I’m in line for a second surgery for my shoulder after a rocket attack . God bless all who serve !

I agree. I really think this needs to be covered extensively and reported, via newpapers, a book, but, in my opinion by TV. A respected reported of one of the networks needs to make this information available to the public…i.e, the number of deaths of civilians who are in these middle east countries. We may be bringing some soldiers home, but how many civlians are still there and subject to the same dangers as the military is. We just lost our son (via suicide) who was in Iraq for 4 years (2005 to 2009) and suffered severly from PTSD from his service to this country. The American public does need to know how many civilians are involved in this situation.

I don’t want him going and he thinks he will be totally safe and will be protected on base. He
Doesn’t think when making decisions. And doesn’t think it’s that bad up there cause the war is over. But speaking with people who been there says not to let him go. 😦 please help!!!

If he would be working a US Government funded contract that put him under the Defense Base Act Workers’ Compensation scheme then we highly recommend he not go. Trust us, it’s not worth it.
